Our daughter, McKenzie Ballard started attending CA October 2015. In just a few months we have noticed an improvement in her overall speed and movement. Most importantly she is gaining new confidence and learning how to apply the skills learned at CA on the lacrosse field.

She looks forward to the variety and challenges during her sessions. In two months, she has never repeated the same routine. This has helped keep her engaged and excited for every session.

I'VE NEVER PLAYED A SPORT, AND I HATE SWEATING

I would recommend Contemporary Athlete to anyone and everyone! I am by no means any sort of athletic. My balance is horrendous, I have never played a sport and I hate sweating. Before joining the Contemporary Athlete group I tried a lot of different gyms. I tried the trendy gym where I was literally just a number to the owner that left me to find my way through the workout stations in 30 seconds or less. I have also tried the cheap option that lures you in with an astoundingly low membership cost but just found myself walking on the treadmill for an hour before I was bored. CA is the first gym where the class sizes were just big enough to have a team atmosphere but still have a one on one relationship with the trainers.

Both Kyla and Dave have taken time to become personally invested in my health because they truly want to see everyone succeed and become better athletes. I have literally cried to them about personal struggles in attaining my goals and they worked with me to help solve problems. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I hate both Kyla and Dave because the workouts are hard like really hard where I think I’m going to die (I don’t die obviously) but I have never felt stronger and lost so many inches in such a short amount of time.

CA has been the motivator that I needed to get moving. I started out as a 12:12 member (a very beginner class) which gave me the foundation and support that I needed to get my fitness on track.

Although the battle hasn’t been easy I have currently gone from couch potato to running my first 1/2 marathon in a little over a year. CA has motivated me to put health, nutrition and perseverance at the top of my list.

I AM NOT AN ATHLETE... I NEVER HAVE BEEN.

I NEVER PLAYED SPORTS AS A CHILD SO I NEVER ENJOYED THE CAMARADERIE YOU FEEL AS A TEAM MEMBER FOR AN ORGANIZED SPORT.

I have never been a member of a “gym” rather I would exercise at home, run, and tried to maintain my health and keep a positive mindset. I was now in my 40’s and wanted to ensure I was able to remain as healthy as I had been in my 20’s and 30’s… My husband had recently been going to CA and was raving about the way he felt and I was starting to see the benefits in his physical appearance. I wanted that for myself so I decided to try it out. My first experience at Contemporary Athlete was in a group setting with my husband and close personal friend. I was nervous at first but since I was amongst people I knew, I figured I could make it through. I did and I loved it. Dave focused on the technique of how to properly do each exercise so as not to hurt myself He was patient and kind and I found myself enjoying the sweat the dripped down my back with each movement. One month later, Dave’s idea of running a ladies group came to fruition. I only knew one other lady attending and of course, Dave. Feeling very shy at first, I pushed myself to relax and just focus on my own movements. Instead I found an almost family or “team” sort of atmosphere that began to form as I attended each “Ladies Night”. We encouraged each other and all started to become much stronger and realized that it did not matter who was there, but that we would encourage each other and any new attendees! I have been going to CA for one year now and love it. I feel stronger and healthier, but also love the team atmosphere that I never experienced as I was growing up!

CAME IN TERRIFIED. LEFT FEELING INCREDIBLY INSPIRED.

EVERYONE WHO DOES THE WORK LEAVES A WARRIOR. A BENDY, WELL COMPOSED, NINJAFIT MANIMAL.

I am a 30 year old woman, and have identified as an athlete for the majority of my life. After college track and tennis were over, trying to stay fit without the proper help, I found myself overweight and plagued with one injury after another. No gym setting was comfortable for me, and without feeling confident I knew what to do once I got there, I lost all motivation to go.

This year (May 2015) I was able to get my nutrition back on track and felt fabulous about my subsequent weight loss. However, once the pounds were gone and the body fat % was reduced, I still found that I didn't feel great. I was still limited in mobility and strength, and found things like running, hiking, and lifting to be challenging and painful.

I had known David Bender via the internet only for many years. When I reached out to him with respect to professional matters, he offered to have me in to CA to find out what it was all about. That first day I went in terrified, and came out inspired. In all things in life there is a sense of peace and right when you finally experience what you have been searching for all along. I knew I had found not only an effective method... but the RIGHT way to train. The only way to train. I immediately began NinjaFit and have been going 4 days/week since.

Now, I've never been a ninja before so I'm not exactly sure what it feels like to BE one, but the way I feel just 7 weeks in, has got to be pretty close to what ninjas feel like every day. I wouldn't have believed him if Dave told me I'd be able to rep 50 dead lifts at 5lbs over what my max was just 6 weeks ago. He did. But instead of telling me, he quietly went about the business of improving my body, and here I am 7 weeks later, able to do just that. Dave doesn't need hype or dramatic affirmations to motivate you. The culture of work ethic he has developed does that all on its own. You walk into CA wanting to best your own PRs, receiving encouragement from everyone else in the room, and feeling more flexible, faster, and stronger literally every time you leave. And, curiously, usually craving bacon. Or coffee. Or both ;)

In all seriousness I am grateful to have found Dave and CA as early in life as I have. His interests are not only in my results 3, 6, or even 12 months from now, but in 5, 10, and 20 years from now. I trust him wholeheartedly with my health, wellness, and progress, and feel like I have found a home here at CA. It isn't just a gym, and he is no average trainer. He is a mentor, and everyone who comes in and does the work, leaves a warrior; a bendy, well composed, ninjafit manimal.

I HAD TRIED EVERYTHING. (OR SO I THOUGHT)

CONTEMPORARY ATHLETE IS NOT A GYM. IT IS SO MUCH MORE

I needed a change. I had done everything. Or so I thought. Aerobics (back in the day), Pilates, yoga, boot camp, 5k's, 10k;s 1/2 marathons. I'm even Level 1 Cross Fit certified. I was stalled in my fitness and bored with my options.

Then a friend introduced me to CA. I originally thought, this is an elite training center....they won't want to bother with me. I was completely wrong. Dave worked hard to understand my goals. Not just listen, write them down, and track my goals....but UNDERSTAND.

Summer, 2015: I wanted to make some physical changes in the coming fall. That meant recruiting someone to assist me with this endeavor. So where to start looking for a trainer? Why, social media, of course!!

Showing up and doing the work has never been my problem. Nutrition has always been hard for me. CA made it make sense. It has become a major element in my fitness plan.

I've been 'working out' all my life. I've been in and out of many gyms. CA is not a gym - it's so much more. I've met my share of coaches and personal trainers. CA is the best at what they do. The owner is serious about helping people. It's what he does all day, every day. It's not a hobby. I feel educated and invested in my personal health and fitness goals more than ever. I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN TRAINING HARD. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE DIFFERENCE, AND I WAS HOOKED.

I'M STILL TRAINING, AND STILL COMPETITIVE (EVEN AT 50 YEARS OLD)

I became a client at the CA just over 3 years ago, right after it was opened. As a member of the HRRT elite cycling team we were offered the opportunity to try the class based strength training program run at CA by Dave.

My cross-training up until then consisted of "going to the gym" 3-5 times per week and running to try and support my cycling. Immediately I noticed the difference in the training as I was very sore after the first few sessions even though I thought I had been training hard. I was hooked and increased my frequency over that first winter. The outcome when spring cycling season hit was immediately noticeable. I was faster, stronger in the hills, setting PR's, placing higher in races and beating friends I hadn't in the past.

After 3 years of consistent training at the CA, I have been able to continue to elevate my fitness and results each year, be competitive in new and different events (even at 50 years old) and thanks to Dave's coaching and programming, I continue to set and reach goals that are higher than I could have imagined prior to starting at CA.

I discovered an environment that challenged and supported me in ways I never expected.

The people I’ve met there have been nothing but fun and supportive to workout with.

I was invited to the CA by one of my best friends. I thought sure why not go for a Saturday morning workout and nutrition class… this could be fun. I truly had no idea that this one decision would change my life (so far). I’ve worked out for years doing various classes, exercise regimens and I’m a certified yoga teacher… I got this workout thing figured out.

What I soon discovered was an environment that challenged and supported me in ways I never expected. I realized that I didn’t have the workout thing all figured out and I was being pushed harder with every workout I was handed.

I had to relearn how to move with proper form and find a deeper range of motion while becoming hyper aware of the correct muscle groups needed to execute each motion. I also had to become comfortable being uncomfortable and every class was something new that challenged me in a different way (hello box jumps). I’m relatively new to the CA but I already have noticeable results and I don’t just mean scale wise. I mean I’m stronger, faster, leaner and quite honestly ready to grab my workouts by the balls.

I’m hooked on the CA. This facility has taken away any workout boredom I may have experienced in the past. It has turned working out for me into something I love again and can’t wait to do. The people I’ve met there have been nothing but fun and supportive to workout with. To have an instructor like Dave encouraging you, helping you with your form and transforming you into the best version of yourself is truly a gift. For better or worse the CA is stuck with me because quite honestly it’s my happy place.

I really don't like gyms...or people, but I LOVE Contemporary Athlete.

I'm getting muscles I don't even know the name for!

A friend brought me to Contemporary Athlete and it was literally the best thing she's ever done for me. My goal was to build muscle to make me a better hiker and tone my loose skin. After 6 weeks I've lost 7 1/2 inches and I'm stronger than I've ever been. I'm getting muscles I don't even know the name for! I'm doing things I never thought I was capable of and every day is different and challenging which I love. You are literally pushed to your limits and beyond. The best part is my "fitfam" and trainers who I look forward to seeing everyday. They are always cracking jokes while I'm trying to lift heavy things over my head. I can honestly say It's wayyyy better than spending time with my 3 kids. Lol
